Holistic Pelvic Care for Women

Holistic Pelvic Care™ is a physical-therapy technique pioneered by Tami Kent, MSPT, and created especially for women experiencing pelvic pain and discomfort.

A woman’s pelvis is shaped like a bowl, with muscles and connective tissue (fascia) supporting the ovaries and uterus. When there’s any physical or emotional trauma to the pelvis—infection, hysterectomy, pregnancy, labor, ovarian cyst, or other—the fascia tightens to support the muscles. The problem is that sometimes the fascia stays contracted, which prevents the muscles from relaxing. This can result in pelvic symptoms such as:

  • Decreased circulation of blood and hormones

  • Difficulty conceiving

  • Urinary incontinence

  • Bowel incontinence or constipation

  • Pain during intercourse

This therapy uses gentle inter-vaginal massage, myofascial release, and trigger-point therapy, along with guided breath work and visualization. The purpose of Holistic Pelvic Care is to heal and realign the tissues of the pelvic floor, and support a woman in her pelvic space physically, energetically, and emotionally.

Holistic Pelvic Care can…

  • Restore pelvic muscle balance and strength, and support organ health and alignment

  • Facilitate blood circulation and hormone flow

  • Relax pelvic tension and alleviate pelvic symptoms and pain

  • Increase sexual health, libido, and orgasm

  • Enhance fertility and prepare the body for pregnancy and labor

  • Heal traumatic or difficult birth, or support the body in healing after a miscarriage or abortion.

  • Support long-term vaginal health and the transition to menopause

  • Encourage basic women’s health and self care

Dr. Curtiss often recommends Holistic Pelvic Care for women who are experiencing fertility issues. By expanding and softening the tissues, the pelvic bowl is transformed from a tight band into a soft, fluffy pillow, which makes for a good implantation and helps prevent miscarriage. Dr. Curtiss has had success in using this technique even with patients who have been trying to conceive for more than four years.
